Our Unhoused Brothers and Sisters Pick Up Trash and Still Can't Catch A Break

The Homeless are Cleaning Up the Trash in St. Louis.

Unsung hero friends started an amazing thing this year in the city of St Louis when they began putting un-housed friends to work cleaning up the trash in the city.
Those whose heads hung low, are proudly being empowered. Where once litter was filling every square foot of the North center of the City, clean green grass and sidewalks shine forth.
The City had long abandoned the area and its people, until recently. After learning of the movement, one of the participants was forced to pack up her tent and the supplies that she dispersed to the homeless and leave.

Merferd is Hanging Out at the Pallet Yard This Year

3/20/2018

Merferd is usually all over town, but this year he is focusing on an area off of Cass Street referred to as the Pallet Yard. Phil and Merferd have met some great people there who have helped to make even more Merferds.
For 2018, Merferd has made the Pallet Yard his base of operations. From there, he will continue his duties as St. Louis’ unappointed kindness dignitarian. Merferd and his friends are working on more Merferds which will appear randomly around town.
Those who wish to sponsor a Merferd can purchase one in the Merferd Mart. In your honor they will be set free somewhere in a forgotten part of town. Phil will take a photo of that twinkling eyed yellow guy in his new home, and he’ll post those photos on Instagram and Facebook.
If you’d like to help in other ways, here are 5 Ways to Help Merferd.

UPDATE: Missouri - The State of Brother for Brother

The flood wall feud has another participant and this time he didn't bother with the art part. But Merferd had an answer to that:
Merferd is praying over the evil one who is overcome with the Love of God.

"It's the goodness of God that leads men to repentance."  -- Roman's 2:4

After Merferd came out from behind the evil one and put his hand on his head, the Tennessee tager's fans went bonkers and were livid. One even threatening to break my hands. At that point Merferd went from pulling up the eye brow and sticking his little finger in his ear, to jamming a tooth brush in his mouth. The green teeth were getting to us all anyway.

The Man Behind the Setars

One evening, in the University City Loop Phil and Merferd were fortunate enough to meet a gifted Kurdish musician. He was playing near Ranoush, a Middle  Eastern/Syrian restaurant. The restaurant had been damaged during the recent protests. And the Merferd and Ranoush trolley peace train picture was still covering the broken glass front doors.
As you watch him playing, the camera moves to the restaurant. Merferds are covering part of the restaurant. That part of the restaurant was damaged when protesters took to University City, Missouri a few weeks earlier.
Picture
His host church is one of all races and an especially goodly amount of recent immigrants. We could not have sought out a better musician as an opening act for our documentary November 10 and 11 at 7:00 pm at New City South.
Phil and Merferd were taken into outer-space and back. They were taken to the ends of the earth and back.
They were raptured by his music. They stood  there in awe. Then he told us that the song was thousands of years old.
Picture
We are honored that he'll be performing before the documentary "The Man Behind the Merferds," November 10th and 11th as the doors open at 6:00, at a place of many peoples and nations "New City South."

UPDATE: Merferd vs. The Evil One
It seems that Merferd has a way of making evil uncomfortable.
Merferd found a home on the flood wall at PaintLouis.  Soon after, he was painted over with a Frankenstein like thing we refer to as The Evil One.
Was Merferd mad? Nope, but he made his feelings known.

Merferd FTW!

Paintlouis is an event which draws artists to a two mile long flood wall is where graffiti and mural painters from across the US and world descend once a year to repaint.
It was a productive day painting a big Merferd on the flood wall in downtown St. Louis.
Phil Jarvis, internationally renowned mural artist was given a designated spot at the beginning of the long wall next to St Louis' own popular artist, Phil Berwick. Two Phils.

Phil Jarvis was commissioned by St. Louis Magazine for its cover. The other artists contributed their skills and creativity gratis.
Phil Jarvis paints his signature beard in every single commission mural he paints.
So the other Phil ... Merferd's Phil just had to have Merferd's signature beard pointing of course at the other Phil's
Picture
Take a close look. Not only is Phil Jarvis' beard in his St Louis Magazine front cover mural, but his entire silhouette of his face is!  At least from the nose on down.
The other Phil (Phil Jarvis) finished and packed up. Merferd's Phil lingered on even after the sun, not wanting to miss a single fan. In this case three of them.
Picture
One of the Paint St. Louis 2017 organizers wanted Merferd on end caps, and he gladly obliged.

But, everything changes.
The very next weekend while Merferds's Phil was bringing Merferds to Paint Memphis, a fan caught this happening and sent a photo to Phil and Merferd.
Picture
Phil was in Tennessee at the time. He was tempted to go down to the tagger's tattoo studio (which happened to be in Nashville) and paint a Merferd on his door.  Phil and Merferd thought better of that. They have other plans instead ...
Picture
Phil was glad the "Missouri, State of Brother for Brother" tag was still there, untouched from three years ago before Merferd went viral in St Louis. Also, "The Man Behind the Merferd" documentary information remained.

Why Drive Nice?

Picture
It's high time to give Merferd fans the reason behind the "Drive Nice Merferd" ?
on tan abandoned bill board between Shreeve and Kingshighway on the North side of Westbound I-70
To you St Lou, It's now the time,
To tell the tale, to read the rhyme,
Behind The "Drive Nice" Merf.
Especially since Phil and his daughter
Got hit and run from a big semi,
And almost left this Earth.
-- Sound track by Aggie and Phil Berwick
